The Canal Street Redevelopment Project is a culmination of five years of collaboration with community partners stemming from the Town of Lyons’ Comprehensive Plan development and implementation.
The project will remove hazardous, vacant, and condemned buildings that have blighted and long-afflicted this area of Lyons’ Downtown Business District. The demolition of these structures is the first phase of a transformational project in the Canal Street and NY Route 14 Corridor. This phase will set the stage for redevelopment of the sites for new mixed-use construction.
The full redevelopment project includes at least 9 parcels in this neighborhood (see site map above) and will create an estimated 55,000-60,000 SF of new space for residential and commercial uses. The project also includes infrastructure improvements in and around the project area to upgrade water and sewer, sidewalks, and streetscape; making the area safer, walkable, accessible, and connected to the community.
Phase I- The Canal Street Redevelopment Project is made possible through EPA Multi-Purpose Brownfield grant funding, EPA Revolving Loan funding, and HCR Land Bank Initiative funding.
Phase II- Development for the Resurgence of the Town of Lyons Canal Street District is in partnership with the Town of Lyons through their Restore NY grant and Northern Borders Regional Commission infrastructure grant funding.
Please note: we are in the process of identifying a developer partner. While we know general square footage amounts, locations, and building uses, we do not have concepts, floor plans, or detailed designs available yet.
